Hanuman Chalisa

Verse 10

At the end of the Ramayana, Rama offered Hanuman eternal liberation in heaven.

But Hanuman refused.

As the entire kingdom followed Rama to the river to enter paradise, Hanuman asked one question: "Will your story be told in heaven?"

Rama replied: "No. In heaven there is no struggle and no growth. There are no stories."

Hanuman declined: "Then keep your heaven. I would rather stay on this earth in this mortal body, as long as your story is told."

And to this day, tradition says wherever Ram's story is told, Hanuman is right there in the room, listening with tears of joy.

400 years ago, Tulsidas hid the cognitive code in verse ten.

Prabhu charitra sunibe ko rasiya. Rām lakhan sītā man basiya.

You delight in hearing the Lord's story: Ram, Lakshman, and Sita live in your heart.

Think about why Hanuman rejected paradise.

Most of us work toward a goal just to feel that surge of accomplishment: the juice, the ras of life, feeling high on life.

To us, that future milestone is heaven.

The trap is believing the high only lives at the finish line, treating our present life like an uncomfortable waiting room.

We work with chronic anxiety and rush, constricting ourselves into a smaller version of who we are.

Hanuman rejected heaven because he was a rasiya.

A rasiya is someone who drinks the juice of the living story right now.

If you are already saturated in the joy of the story today, why postpone your life for an imaginary heaven?

Fulfillment is not at the end of the road. It is tasting the craft and the living moment right now.

Look back at the riverbank in Ayodhya.

People were rushing to a future paradise to find peace.

Hanuman stayed because Ram, Sita, and Lakshman were already living in his chest.

Ram as pure consciousness, Sita as divine energy, and Lakshman as the power to execute.

When all three are united inside you, you do whatever needs to be done with absolute ease.

Your goals no longer carry the impossible burden of having to make you happy.

And when the finish line no longer controls you, you become truly unstoppable.

"You don't have to wait for the finish line to feel high on life. Paradise is not at the end of the road. It is in the living story right now."

Keep your massive goals, but stop making them the condition for your happiness.

Today, take the big project you have been grinding through with worry.

Drop the rush.

Taste the rasa in the craft right now, and build from joy.

Before you rush to the next finish line, remember that at the end of Ramayana Rama offered Hanuman eternal liberation in heaven.
